One of the first ever games I owned on Xbox was Fable, and I remember many discussions with friends about the game, the expansive world in which it was set, and being totally immersed in what was quite possibly the best RPG of its time.

Shockwaves of joy have traversed the internet following an announcement that Fable will be returning to consoles and PC, in what is described as a “new beginning” for the franchise.
“Fable returns with a new beginning for the legendary franchise. Explore a land of fantastical creatures and wondrous places. Developed by Playground Games for Xbox Series X and Windows 10.”
The YouTube comments on the official trailer summed up the general mood of Fable fans…

New Fable Game Announcement July 23rd
The announcement came from Microsoft on July 23rd, stating that Playground Games are developing the new Fable game, and to ensure the nostalgia was cranked up to eleven, made the original Fable available on Game Pass.
Most recently, in 2018, a digital collectable card game – Fable Fortune – was released by Mediatonic, co-developed by Flaming Fowl Studios. The card game is free to play, and after a successful Kickstarter, still hit a rough patch and closed down their servers March 4th 2020. Maybe a revival could be on the cards (sorry), thanks to Microsoft’s announcement?
The original game was released in 2004 for Xbox, and the last in the series – Fable III – was launched in 2010. The RPG is choice-driven, meaning a player’s decisions and actions throughout the game impacts both reputation and the part they play in the Fable world.
The fanbase is alive and kicking right now, and the success of the new Fable title will be in their hands. If the buzz is anything to go by, its success is pretty much assured.
Don’t mess it up, Playground Games. We’re looking forward to this.
