Amidst the controversy surrounding Sony and Naughty Dog supposedly having YouTube ‘take down’ videos and creators receiving strikes about leaks – it transpires that The Last of Us 2 release date is set for June 2020.
Last of Us 2 Release Date Set For June 9th
Let’s take a minute to review the controversy, as we heard from the lips of YouTube creators MBG and AngryJoe Show. Sony apparently know who leaked the information, and have denied that it was an internal source. They also went on to say in a response to Polygon that legal action will be taken against the leaker.
SIE has identified the primary individuals responsible for the unauthorized release of TLOU2 assets. They are not affiliated with Naughty Dog or SIE. We are unable to comment further because the information is subject to an on-going investigation. We’re looking forward to when The Last of Us Part II will be in your hands and can’t wait for you to enjoy the full experience on June 19.
– Sony Interactive Entertainment
Of course, we don’t support leakers. Most of the time it is just smoke and mirrors, but spoilers are even worse. The sheer amount of work that goes into these games is wasted for the sake of pretend internet karma, and it puts undue pressure on already struggling developers, when the finish line is in sight.
Angry Joe pointed out in a later video (following his response to the leak), that taking down videos that contain code or stills, or even footage from the upcoming Last of Us 2 is just plain business. Sony and Naughty Dog are more than entitled to protect their property to the fullest extent of the law. However, for YouTube channels and creators to receive strikes for simply discussing it – that’s a new level of dumb.
“I welcome Sony to strike my channel after [ I share ] this video, because I’m going to be discussing the leaks”
– AngryJoe Show
So, Angry Joe did indeed post the video (below), and ensured he covered himself as best he could with SPOILERS tags and all that good stuff.
The whole thing was set up to allow him to vent about the leaks and spoliers, but it had an underlying goal – to see if Sony or Naughty Dog asked him to take it down, or if YouTube would give him a strike.
The result? Well, the video is probably still up as you are reading this, and was up on 6th May.
What do we know about Last of Us 2?
TechLater.com does not support spoliers or leaks in any way, so we’re not about to provide information that has come from a nefarious source.
However…
Besides the Last of Us 2 release date, here’s what we do know, according to Sony’s official Last of Us 2 page: –
The story begins five years after Ellie & Joel’s treacherous journey across a beautifully designed post-pandemic United States. Ellie and Joel have now settled in Jackson, Wyoming, and are living within a community of survivors who are thriving in spite of the preceding and surrounding chaos.
Joel and Ellie have now found some peace in the community, though there is the ever-present threat of infected and other survivors.
An event at the start of the new story disrupts their relative peace, and we find Ellie embarking on yet another a relentless journey, doling out justice and looking to find herself some closure. She hunts those responsible for the violence one by one, and is confronted with the “devastating physical and emotional repercussions of her actions”.
